Fall Fashion

Atop my pile of old-fashioned, non-digital newspapers this morning was the Wall Street Journal Fall Fashion magazine. It is overcast and we paused the air conditioning and opened up the windows for a breath of non-chilled air for the first time in six weeks. Is sweater weather advancing? Is it almost time for my beloved merino wool turtlenecks?

But first, it’s fall fashion magazine season. Ah, those glory days of the double issue of sleek, ultra-styled clothing that - even in the days when I had a waist - would never have worn, but loved to view. The parade of colors, warm chocolate, vermillion, and a splash of deep forest green, and the heft of wool and other materials and the boots! 

It is almost time to give up maintaining the pedicure, the fuzz-free legs, and the boho dresses of summer. And while I love all of these beautiful fall clothes, it doesn’t mean I will buy or wear any of them. It is a return to jeans, joggers and sweatshirts, sweaters, some of which are so old they could attend my next college reunion.

I am a huge fan of fashion, even if I peruse this WSJ magazine in my son’s cast-off Cookie Monster PJ bottoms and my daughter’s cast-off Old Navy tank top with a large cup of coffee on a Sunday morning.  Aspirational, inspirational and then in a month my sole apparel choice will be to move all of my Uniqlo turtlenecks to the front of my closet and declare it to be Fall.
